Head Start Food Service Assistant

Community Action Head Start is looking for a positive individual to join our team as a Food Service Assistant! This role assists in planning and implementing the daily meals and snacks for children and staff at our K Street and 26th Street Head Start Centers.
We are looking for someone that enjoys preparing quality meals and wants to contribute to supporting families and children in our community through our early childhood program.
This is a 30-hour/week position, 5 days per week (M-F) 8:00am to 1:00pm.
Starting Pay: $15.89/hour
The Role:
Ensure meals and snacks are served following the USDA meal requirements and allergy/food restrictions.
Support in meal service of breakfast, lunch, and/or afternoon snack, including preparation and serving to classrooms.
Clean and sanitize kitchen utensils and equipment, and food preparation areas according to sanitary codes.
Label, store and dispose of food per regulations.
Support efforts of Early Head Start and Head Start staff to educate children and families on best nutrition and health practices
Consult with staff on nutrition projects, healthy eating habits for children, family style meals and/or CACFP guidelines.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required.
One year of experience of food service work preferred.
Current Food Handlers Permit required.
Ability to read, write, and communicate English effectively is required.
